Can-Am announced a significant milestone: 500,000 Defender side-by-side vehicles produced since 2016. This achievement not only reflects the success of the Defender platform, but it also highlights the hard work and dedication of Can-Am employees.
Can-Am debuted the Defender in 2015 as part of the 2016 model year lineup. The versatile and reliable side-by-side quickly gained traction in the farming, work, hunting and outdoor industries thanks to its useful features, wide range of capabilities and well-rounded performance. As the demand for utility-focused side-by-sides has grown over the past few years, the Defender lineup has become more specialized with many packages and configurations to tailor the vehicle to each application. The Defender platform makes quick work of the toughest jobs around the ranch or job site.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this landmark in Can-Am history,” said Julie Tourville, director, global marketing, Can-Am Off-Road at BRP. “It’s much more than a number. It’s a sign of trust from our customers who rely on their Defenders day in and day out, and it’s a result of dedication and passion from our team who work hard every day to create some of the most capable side-by-sides on the market.”
The Defender is a mainstay on ranches and farms around the world. Terry Stuart Forst is a fifth-generation rancher, managing the 52,000-acre Stuart Ranch. “I’ve had my Defender for six years, and I appreciate this machine so much,” said Forst. “I use it every day and it’s incredibly handy and dependable. It’s hauled everything from baby colts to minerals and spray rigs… the options seem endless. When customers visit, I take them around the property in my Defender to look at mares, colts and sale horses. I love this machine.”
As the 500,000th Defender was completed, the Juarez 2 plant staff celebrated the achievement with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and company gathering. In addition, journalists and local government officials were invited to tour the facility, showcasing the work of Can-Am’s talented and hard-working team. The Juarez campus of BRP Mexico also produces all Can-Am Off-Road side-by-sides including the Commander and Maverick models.
