Ski-Doo Reveals Enhancements to MXZ-600RS Snocross Racer https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/ski-doo-mxz-600rs-snocross-racer-enhancements/ Tue, 10 Sep 2024 18:00:00 +0000 https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/?p=202807 MXZ-600RS enhancements include a more robust coil mount and improved frame reinforcement to withstand the demands of top-level competition.

The post Ski-Doo Reveals Enhancements to MXZ-600RS Snocross Racer appeared first on Motorcycle & Powersports News.

]]>
The Ski-Doo MXZ-600RS E-TEC has one of the most dominating profiles that snocross has ever seen with an incredible 70%-win rate on the ISOC circuit in 2024. That kind of dominance isn’t by chance, the race development team fully understands the pillars they set many years ago for the snocross sled – performance, ease of use and durability – and changes for 2025 fall into the refinement category for each pillar as they look for the MXZ-600RS to continue its winning ways.

Performance is the number one priority for any racing vehicle, and the MXZ-600RS gets new rear to center coupling in the rMotion RS rear suspension for optimal transfer and agility. In addition to the new coupling, the rMotion RS also receives an eccentric limiter strap adjuster to allow for perfect adjustment and tuning. Improved engine and suspension calibration top things off for even higher levels of performance.

Taking a snowmobile right out of the crate and being able to race it competitively with as little work as possible is what defines easy for a racer. With the Rotax 600RS E-TEC powerplant and its twin injector system, ease of use is already built in with optimal throttle response and maximum power in all conditions courtesy of the sophisticated engine management system. There’s no need to tune the engine ever. The KYB Pro 46 shocks featuring adjustable high and low speed compression and rebound damping make fast, easy suspension adjustments to suit riders and tracks the norm. A couple more features to make it easy this year will be the addition of the holeshot device and the reinforced snow-flap being installed right at the factory so racers or their crews can spend less time wrenching and more time on their riding skills.

While durability has been a hallmark of the MXZ-600RS, racers pushing the envelope find things mere mortals don’t. Past improvements have addressed most items, but this year a more robust coil mount and improved frame cross brace will further strengthen the sled.

Key Points

The REV Gen5 platform features an open cockpit design with a centrally balanced engine to provide superior rider ergonomics and handling in rough conditions. The layout delivers agile and responsive behavior to rider input, while the Ergo Step side panels and beveled tunnel allow racers the room to attack – without interference from the chassis. It features the REV Gen5 four-point engine mounting system and improved CVT alignment for more consistent clutch performance plus a stiffer chassis that provides more precise handling and better feedback to the rider. Another Gen5 feature is the quick-change drive axle for easier and faster track changes, making race weekends easier for the pit crews. The RS specific front S-Module is also reinforced for improved durability.

RAS RS front suspension provides optimal shock length for long travel and a lower center of gravity. The front suspension features a long spindle design that allows high cornering speeds, and a unique power steering system exclusive to the MXZx RS race sled provides ultra-precise handling with less effort.

The legendary rMotion RS rear suspension is improved with new rear to center shock coupling and features a refined center arm for improved traction in rough conditions – especially the ice edges and ridges that develop in snocross racing. The motion ratio of the rear arm linkage provides a soft initial feel, and when combined with the improved coupling, it delivers better traction and weight transfer for more control in wicked snocross conditions.

The MXZ RS continues to use bespoke 46-millimeter KYB Pro Series shocks that have Integral Base Valves with the ability to adjust not only high and low speed compression but also high-speed rebound.

The engine powering the MXZx 600RS E-TEC is as sophisticated as any two-stroke on earth – except maybe the Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R that features water injection, where it draws much of its technology from. Examples include booster injectors, a short intake tract with double reeds and digital eRAVE. But that doesn’t mean it’s finicky or high maintenance – it’s actually just the opposite. By using E-TEC advanced systems, this 600cc high output monster is a hands-off package that compensates for weather and altitude conditions while delivering maximum horsepower at all times without human intervention.

Ski-Doo Invites All Riders to Free Avalanche Awareness and Avoidance Seminars https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/ski-doo-free-avalanche-awareness-avoidance-seminars/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 12:00:00 +0000 https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/?p=202790 These seminars, part of BRP's Responsible Rider program, promote backcountry safety, feature expert instructors and include safety gear demonstrations.

]]>
Ski-Doo snowmobiles continues to put action behind parent company BRP’s Responsible Rider program with a sixteenth year of free avalanche awareness seminars designed to help keep riders safe. BRP is committed to creating safe experiences for riders of all brands – at all levels of skill – and education like these seminars is key to making that happen. Backcountry Access (BCA), a maker of avalanche safety gear, shares the same goal and continues their support for the seventh year with equipment and their in-depth knowledge of backcountry recreation safety. Because no one should ride alone, attendees are encouraged to bring their fellow back country explorers with them when attending a seminar.

BRP’s Responsible Rider program addresses safety initiatives across all their product lines and supports the Ski-Doo brand in consistently renewing and advancing rider safety in the backcountry. Seminars have reached over 25,000 snowmobilers to date, and their importance is consistently voiced by attendees, providing testimony to their value for the sled community. The feedback and enthusiasm for knowledge has also helped shape the curriculum and continually update course material to be relevant and entertaining for today’s rider.

BCA will be providing a prize at each stop again this year along with displaying their state-of-the-art safety products from avalanche transceivers to airbags. One lucky winner from each seminar will receive either a Tracker transceiver or BCA’s new Link Mini two-way radio.

Riders are encouraged to bring those whom they ride with most often to the events. The benefit is clear – help raise your group’s awareness of those you ride with and care about, to ensure everyone can track the groups’ well-being and help each other if a situation ever occurs.

In addition to sponsoring in-person seminars, Ski-Doo collaborated with BCA on a useful video series which can be found in the Ski-Doo Owner Zone along with the wide ranging BCA safety videos available on their website to help advance knowledge remotely. BCA will also be introducing a new video series later this fall called SLEDeducation that is a snowmobile-specificversion of their popular Backcountry Basics series.

About the Seminars

The Canadian sessions are led by Marshall Dempster. With 20 plus years of experience in the avalanche and mountain rescue fields, Marshall is a professional avalanche forecaster through the Canadian Avalanche Association. He is a lead instructor for the recreational avalanche skills training program through Avalanche Canada. He is also a level three lead guide and member of the board of directors with the Canadian Motorized Backcountry Guides Association, the newly formed certifying body for the snowmobile guiding community. He is excited to share his years of experience and lessons learned in his time spent working and playing in the mountains.

The U.S. sessions are led by Mike Duffy. As one of the most recognized snowmobile trainers in North America, Mike Duffy of Avalanche1.com is an instructor with Silverton Avalanche School, course provider and Pro Member of the American Avalanche Association in addition to being part of the Working Group of Motorized Professionals. He has also taught at the American Avalanche Institute, the Alaska Avalanche School and has trained military teams in winter mobility and avalanche education. Currently, he is lead motorized instructor at Silverton Avalanche School. Duffy has been giving snowmobile-specific avalanche classes since 1996. As rescue team leader in the Vail Mountain Rescue Group, he has more than 30 years of mountain riding and mountain rescue experience. He is also a Backcountry Guide and riding instructor.

Seminars are open to all levels of experience and owners of all brands of sleds. For up-to-date information on locations and times or to register for a free avalanche awareness seminar, visit the Ski-Doo website (links below) or follow Ski-Doo on Facebook and Instagram.

Participants are encouraged to register with the host dealer so they can plan meeting space accordingly and ensure a spot.

The post 2025 Polaris Race Snowmobiles Have Arrived appeared first on Motorcycle & Powersports News.

]]>
Racing is woven into the DNA and heritage of Polaris snowmobiles, and now Polaris Inc. (NYSE: PII) has unveiled two 2025 Polaris race snowmobiles: the 2025 600 INDY Cross Country and 600R.

“We continue to make investments in our racing program by bringing new technology and innovation to our race sleds. The engineers who support our race sleds also work on our consumer sleds, so often racing influences the features of our snowmobiles you see out on the trails or in the backcountry,” said Jenny Nack, Polaris Snow vice president and general manager. “We’re excited to build on the momentum and success of Team Polaris this upcoming winter race season.”

The 2025 Polaris 600 INDY Cross Country is built to dominate cross-country race circuits from the Iron Dog to the I-500. New for 2025 is a 600 Patriot engine, a purpose-built race engine that provides 8% more power and a broader power-and-torque curve than the previous engine.* Using the proven Patriot architecture, along with race-specific porting and an injection system that utilizes semi-direct and throttle-body injection, this race sled is set to lead the pack this racing season.

The 2025 600R is set to conquer the toughest SnoCross tracks this season, following Emil Harr’s Pro Championship winning campaign last season with Judnick Motorsports 600R backed by Factory Polaris Racing. For 2025, the 600R has received a few key updates to improve durability on the track.

“After crushing it last season, the Polaris Factory Race teams are gearing up to exceed expectations this year and are thrilled about the fresh upgrades to the Polaris race sled lineup,” said Thomas Rager, race manager, Polaris Snow.

Motorcycles are popular among consumers due to their affordable prices, fuel efficiency, high-speed capabilities and ease of use. Enthusiasts depend on the performance of their battery to help ensure a smooth ride every time they go to put their feet on the pegs. The battery, usually a 12-volt model, is one of the most important components assembled within the motorcycle — responsible for starting the bike as well as keeping any onboard electronics, such as the radio or GPS, in operation. Even for avid motorists that are exploring new age electric motorcycles to fulfill their need for adventure out of the road, the battery will still play a pivotal role in the manufacturing and design of these technologically advanced applications.

For a wholesale distributor or private dealer, it’s beneficial to recognize the benefits and features of the different battery chemistries available on the market today to equip their bikes with the ideal power solution based on customer need. From conventional flooded lead acid to Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) and lithium batteries, knowing how to accurately describe the selling points of each product can help your business thrive and build a devoted customer portfolio.

Maintenance-free, AGM ODYSSEY batteries from EnerSys are an excellent option for powering motorcycles as well as a variety of other powersports applications such as snowmobiles, personal watercraft (PWC), and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Engineered with proprietary Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL), the pure lead electrode plates in an ODYSSEY battery can be made thinner so that more plates will fit than in a comparably sized conventional lead acid battery. The additional plates provide as much as 15 percent greater surface area, increasing the electrochemical reactions with the electrolyte for significantly higher cranking power.

A few of the key selling points of ODYSSEY batteries are as follows:

 • Rugged outer case and AGM construction of ODYSSEY batteries makes them extremely shock and vibration resistant
 • Can reach a full state of charge (SOC) in as little as four to six hours
 • Up to a two-year shelf life without need for a recharge
 • Can tolerate temperatures that range from minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 40 degrees Celsius) to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius)
 • Can deliver deep cycling reserve power of up to 400 charge/discharge cycles at 80% depth of discharge (DOD) to provide enough power to support hotel loads
 • Easy to install
 • Three times the life and twice the overall power of conventional battery models
 • Backed by an industry-leading warranty for added customer protection
