2025 KTM 450 SMR https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/2025-ktm-450-smr/ Tue, 13 Aug 2024 15:56:57 +0000 https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/?p=202552 Unveiling the 2025 KTM 450 SMR: a benchmark in the world of supermoto, designed for those who crave adrenaline and precision on the track.

The post 2025 KTM 450 SMR appeared first on Motorcycle & Powersports News.

]]>
Using the recently updated 2025 KTM 450 SX-F as its base, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR raises the bar even higher, with key enhancements to the frame, fork and ergonomics.

With its championship-winning 450cc single overhead-camshaft (SOHC) powerplant already a highlight, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR benefits from a slew of updates as found on the newly updated 2025 KTM SX-F range. The biggest and most significant of these can be found on the frame, with visible cutouts and tube-wall thickness changes around the front end, with the engine and rear shock mountings also undergoing the knife.

Besides a 300-gram weight-savings, these structural changes have been engineered to improve chassis flex characteristics and cornering behavior while maintaining overall stability. On the latter point, smaller footrests for 2025 maximize lean angles and reduce the risk of hooking up on curbs.

The 2025 KTM 450 SMR also receives an adjustable 48-millimeter WP XACT Closed Cartridge spring fork for the first time. This features a new mid-valve piston concept that optimizes oil flow within the cartridge and avoids unwanted oil foaming, maintaining damping characteristics. A new hydro stop in the last part of the stroke helps to keep a maximum of reserves in extreme scenarios, like bigger jumps or hard landings.

At the rear, a WP XACT rear shock benefits from an updated linkage with renewed seals and smaller diameter linkage bolts. The setup is taken directly from the KTM Factory Racing Team and has been thoroughly tested on both dirt and tarmac.

Ergonomically, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR benefits from new tank shrouds with bi-composite plastics on the upper and lower flanks. This not only provides a distinctive new look but also aids in cooling by channeling air more effectively.

With regard to air intake, an updated one-piece inlet sleeve and snorkel design feature prevents any deformation, thanks to a more robust and stiffer construction, while an updated fuel tank mount protects the frame against wear and improves tank fitment.

Above the surface, full-orange bodywork, featuring red and black in-mold graphics as well as a more durable black seat bring a cleaner look while communicating the 2025 KTM 450 SMR’s pure READY TO RACE intentions.

As with previous generations, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR is fitted with race-ready Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto tires wrapped around lightweight 16.5-inch front and 17-inch rear ALPINA rims.

The 2025 KTM 450 SMR has been rigorously tested to ensure it can perform under the most extreme conditions. Supermoto World Championship rider Lukas Höllbacher put the machine through its paces in a variety of challenging environments, from scorching 105-degree heat on Spanish asphalt to sub-zero temperatures on ice in Sweden. These grueling test simulations ensure that the 2025 KTM 450 SMR can deliver top performance regardless of the conditions.

Follow the link here to watch the testing phase in the harsh conditions.

With its sights set on maintaining the top spot in the Supermoto category, the new 2025 KTM 450 SMR will be launching off the Mattighofen, Austria, production line and available at your nearest Authorized KTM dealer from this November onward. The New KTM 890 SMT https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/the-new-ktm-890-smt/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 17:54:02 +0000 https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/?p=199850 King of the comebacks.

The post The New KTM 890 SMT appeared first on Motorcycle & Powersports News.

]]>
Sharper, sleeker, sportier. Take a touch of touring, a pinch of unbeatable tarmac performance and a large vivid spice of Supermoto legacy and serve with speed, and KTM is delighted to reintroduce the KTM SMT back to the table. No compromises and no catches. This regeneration of a KTM icon will sweep all highway traffic aside.

Imagine the ultimate Supermoto “play weapon” but also a bike that boasts a number of technical features and additions necessary for extended touring capabilities: You can attack the hill but also know that the bike will take you much further.

Essential Information

 • KTM 890 SMT back in the spotlight with re-tuned KTM 890 LC8c platform and developed to hit marks at the top of the Supermoto touring segment for power/torque-to-weight ratio.
 • A street-focused chassis, adjustable suspension, premium tires and brakes, and other components elevate this purposeful model between KTM ADVENTURE and KTM STREET product ranges — the perfect foil for hill passes and the road that lies thereafter.
 • The 2024 KTM 890 SMT is relaunched with fanfare and pulsating “hill climb” concept in the hands of former AMA Superbike and Supermoto racer Chris Fillmore.

The only way is up. The racing skills of former AMA Superbike and Supermoto ace Chris Fillmore were an apt conduit to display the potential and the limits of the reimagined KTM 890 SMT. The Pikes Peak winner throttled the Supermoto-tourer along a Sardinian Mountain climb to show petrol heads and the motorcycle industry what they had been missing — and what they had been waiting for.

Fillmore gassed the super-torquey 889cc LC8c parallel twin and counted on class-leading power and torque. The engine is the same platform behind the enviable stats and output of the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R: With a 20% increase in rotating mass over the KTM 790 platform, providing stability and reassurance through corners, the knock control and 46-millimeter dual Dell’Orto throttle bodies guarantee optimum momentum while the fuel consumption from the 4.17-gallon (15.8-liter) tank is fantastically low. The KTM 890 SMT is just as happy pushed through low revs as pinned in higher gears. In fact, Fillmore used the full range of the KTM 790 DUKE’s motor to ace his second Pikes Peak hill climb record in Colorado.

The tank itself plays a forceful role in the ergonomics and has been slimmed and designed specifically for the KTM 890 SMT. The form of the tank slides the rider even further into the bike with a wide and comfy contact patch but still compact enough for free and flowing movement, aided by the single-piece Supermoto-shaped seat at a 33.8-inch (860-millimeter) height. The aero-optimized smoked windshield is placed just above the double fender concept with a low splash guard on the fork legs. Cruise or attack?

Chassis-wise, the KTM 890 SMT has a chrome-molybdenum steel frame with a tighter geometry. The structure is typically light and superbly agile on the move but also ensures fierce stability the faster a rider pushes. The shock absorber is angled further to reduce the seat height and accommodate the longer swingarm, contributing to a forwardly inclined rider position as well as straight stability.

Feeling the KTM 890 SMT on the go is a prime experience: agile, flighty and responsive. The WP APEX suspension (43-millimeter open cartridge upside-down forks at 180 millimeters of travel and same for the shock) is fully adjustable and complements the 17-inch wheels. The Michelin PowerGP tires supply more than enough stick for the tightest tarmac and have been especially selected for their specs and appropriateness for the KTM 890 SMT’s demands.

The state-of-the-art 5-inch TFT dashboard is made from optically bonded mineral glass and is scratch- and glare-resistant as well as fully customizable while divulging the easy-to-use infographic menu system for setup preferences.

The bike can be molded even further. The three standard ride modes (RAIN, STREET, SPORT) can be expanded by an optional TRACK setting that permits the rider to toggle different amounts of throttle modes and traction control through 10 levels. Cornering motorcycle traction control (MTC) is an important safety feature sensitive to the bike’s pitch and behavior at lean. Try six different handlebar positions with a 30-millimeter range. The whole show can slide and be wrenched to a halt with potent brakes, with four piston calipers spinning a 320-millimeter front disc and 260-millimeter double piston calipers on the rear. Putting this stopping power into action employs Cornering anti-lock brakes (ABS) and Supermoto ABS, placing both technically advanced provisions into the mix for an excellent safety profile.

More add-ons include heated grips and the chance to add motor slip regulation (MSR, ideal for better control in low grip situations and for fast downshifts) to the software package. Quickshifter+ and cruise control are optional and ready to go with a simple activation process. Good connectivity with the bike means full access to navigation possibilities, and the advantages of the KTMconnect App (including owner manuals and digital service booklet for service and maintenance).

It would be very “backmarker-ish” not to mention the looks. The KTM 890 SMT says a lot with its Supermoto-tourer style, from the wheels to the sporty graphics. The SMT cuts a sharp profile and will be impossible to miss and harder to outgun on the road. As ever, don’t forget the encompassing collection of KTM PowerParts (technical accessories and TRACK and TECH Packs) and KTM PowerWear to look the part on the hill, the highway or any hike to KTM 890 SMT happiness.

2024 KTM 890 SMT Highlights

 • KTM 890 LC8c reworked for special sport touring emphasis and the next generation of the KTM 890 SMT thanks to unbeatable power delivery
 • A chassis ideal for the perfect Supermoto-tourer that achieves the desirable pitch between aggression and chilled cruising with a sportier feel
 • Frame, engine, wheels, WP APEX suspension all tweaked for lithe performance
 • Blast the gradient of any hill climb with Cornering MTC, Cornering ABS and Supermoto ABS, all applicable thanks to premium bike behavior functionality. More customization possible with adjustable Suspension and TRACK mode options
 • Performance with function: Get excited by the tech specs and then revel in the touring aspect of the bike with elements, such as the 5-inch advanced TFT dashboard, Michelin PowerGP tires, and optional Quickshifter+ and cruise control, among other add-ons
 • LED lights, eye-catching styling, 17-inch wheels and KTM 890 SMT spirit from the first throttle roll

Beat a path to an authorized KTM dealer from December onward to lay your gloves on the 2024 KTM 890 SMT.

The post Rule the Track With the 2024 KTM 450 SMR appeared first on Motorcycle & Powersports News.

]]>
The KTM 450 SMR is the bar of reference for Supermoto. For riders seeking an escape from the limits of the road, for dirt bikers that want to feel an exhilarating drift (but on the asphalt), for those that want the ideal training tool or Supermoto racers craving to lead the pack, it is the only choice.

Austria’s own Lukas Höllbacher took his KTM 450 SMR to the 2022 AMA Supermoto title and fought until the last moments for the FIM World Championship. Höllbacher’s track feats and feedback rolled into the serial production version of KTM’s latest and best Supermoto racer. In 2023, he will again be on the attack with the 2024 KTM 450 SMR, and riders can now get their hands on the same model. The 2024 incarnation has a fresh new splash of color using in-mold technology for the bodywork. KTM orange, white and black create an attractive blur at speed, but there is also the distinctive streak of purple, inspired by 1990 KTM bikes barreling around international racetracks.

Surge forward with the 450cc single overhead camshaft (SOHC) engine that fires out massive power with long service intervals. At less than 59.5 pounds (27 kilograms), the powerplant is a masterpiece of power-to-weight engineering. A 44-millimeter Keihin throttle body brings in the fun and gauges the right response, while the SUTER slipper clutch adds another important way to modulate lap-time speed.

Ultimate handling comes thanks to centralization of the motor and chassis within the hydro-formed, laser-cut and robot-welded frame. The compact construction has just the right amount of longitudinal rigidity and flex to provide superb feedback, energy absorption and straight-line stability. The reinforced aluminum subframe was generated from computational dynamic studies: sensitivity, robustness and reliability were the parameters. The hollow, die-cast aluminum swingarm is another remarkable contributor to the 2024 KTM 450 SMR’s performance, along with a NEKEN aluminum handlebar and CNC machined triple clamps (rubber damped for less vibration) to put every single vital meter of the racetrack right into the rider’s hands.

Pivot on a dime with dependable suspension. 48-millimeter WP XACT split front forks have AER technology for progressive and consistent damping, especially in the last 40 millimeters of travel. Count on quick access click adjusters for compression and rebound. The WP XACT shock is small, light and fixed with the frame geometry for better ground clearance of the linkage system. The XACT unit is one of the most advanced pieces of hardware to emerge from the WP Suspension factory lines. Like the fork, the shock’s compression and rebound can be configured without the need for tools.

It’s easy life for the racer, thanks to specialist features such as the electric start, the tool-less air filter for simple replacement; a performance-designed airbox; a flat and high seat (with a high-grip cover) to accommodate control at any angle; and a large, polythene, 1.9-gallon (7.2-liter) fuel tank, meaning more miles at speed. Carefully engineered footpegs with a larger surface area — but revised integration into the frame — are optimized for tarmac and the varying conditions of the terrain.

Run to the limit of the corners with heavy-duty Brembo brakes. The four-piston radial caliper will clamp the 310-millimeter front disc at the merest stroke of the lever, while a single piston unit grabs the 220-millimeter rear disc to set off those time-saving drifts.

Own the track with a raft of special race-orientated details, such as two selectable engine maps, launch control, traction control and the Quickshifter, all administered by a Keihin engine management system. An LED hour meter, fuel injection status and a rollover sensor (ROS) are included. The ROS detects the position of the bike in the event of a crash and automatically kills the engine in a nod towards improved safety.

It features tire tech that won’t let you down. Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto rubber heats up quickly and boasts a large performance scale in terms of temperature range and different states of asphalt. The tires are fitted to high strength but light ALPINA alloy rims with CNC-machined hubs.

2024 KTM 450 SMR Technical Highlights

 • Purposeful orange, black, white and purple race trim livery with black-coated frame and menacing black wheels
 • SOHC engine package weighing less than 59.9 pounds (27 kilograms) and prioritizing centralization thanks to altered positioning in the frame. Easily serviceable
 • Two engine map options, launch control, traction control and Quickshifter as well as SUTER slipper clutch for maximum control
 • Compact, light and innovative chassis for the best feeling, traction and handling
 • First class WP XACT fork with AER technology and XACT shock: small, condensed and fully adjustable hardware to quickly refine track set-up
 • High-quality Brembo brakes with four-piston radially mounted caliper and 310-millimeter front and 220-millimeter rear discs for potent stopping power
 • READY TO RACE details for a pure track-based machine: 16.5/170-inch wheels, Metzeler tires, ODI lock-on grips, tool-less air filter access, light and optimized footpegs
 • Unbeatable ergonomics that place all the stability and poise of the 2024 KTM 450 SMR at the rider’s fingertips for both front-end grip and rear-end confidence

The 2024 KTM 450 SMR will be sliding through Authorized KTM dealer showrooms from May 2023 onward.

The New KTM 890 SMT https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/new-ktm-890-smt/ Wed, 26 Apr 2023 15:14:25 +0000 https://www.motorcyclepowersportsnews.com/?p=197467 All hail the king of the comebacks!

The post The New KTM 890 SMT appeared first on Motorcycle & Powersports News.

Sharper, sleeker, sportier. Take a touch of touring, a pinch of unbeatable tarmac performance and a large vivid spice of Supermoto legacy, and serve it with speed: KTM is delighted to reintroduce the KTM SMT back to the table.

 • KTM 890 SMT is back in the spotlight with re-tuned KTM 890 LC8c platform and developed to hit marks at the top of the Supermoto touring segment for power/torque-to-weight ratio.
 • A street-focused chassis, adjustable suspension, premium tires and brakes, and other components elevate this purposeful model between the KTM ADVENTURE and KTM STREET product ranges — the perfect foil for hill passes but then the road that lies thereafter.
 • The 2023 KTM 890 SMT is relaunched with fanfare and pulsating ‘hill climb’ concept in the hands of former AMA Superbike and Supermoto racer Chris Fillmore.

The only way is up. The racing skills of former AMA Superbike and Supermoto ace Chris Fillmore were an apt conduit to display the potential and the limits of the reimagined KTM 890 SMT. The American and Pikes Peak winner throttled the Supermoto-tourer along a Sardinian Mountain climb to show petrol heads and the motorcycle industry what they had been missing — and what they had been waiting for.

Fillmore gassed the super-torquey 889cc LC8c parallel twin and counted on 105 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. The engine is the same platform behind the enviable stats and output of the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R model and variations: With a 20% increase in rotating mass over the KTM 790 platform, providing stability and reassurance through corners, the knock control and 46-millimeter dual Dell’Orto throttle bodies guaranteeing optimum momentum while the fuel consumption from the 15.8-liter tank is fantastically low at 4.6 liters/100 kilometers. The KTM 890 SMT is just as happy pushed through low revs as pinned in higher gears; in fact, Fillmore used the full range of the KTM 790 DUKE’s motor to ace his second Pikes Peak hill climb record in Colorado.

The tank itself plays a forceful role in the ergonomics and has been slimmed and designed specifically for the KTM 890 SMT. The form of the tank slides the rider even further “into” the bike with a wide and comfy contact patch but still compact enough for free and flowing movement (aided by the single-piece Supermoto shaped seat at an 860-millimeter height). The aero-optimized smoked windshield is placed just above the double fender concept with a low splash guard on the fork legs. Cruise or attack?

Chassis-wise, the KTM 890 SMT has a chromium-molybdenum steel frame with a tighter geometry that apes the KTM ADVENTUREs.

The Michelin PowerGP tires supply more than enough stick for the slickest tarmac and have been especially selected for their specs and appropriateness for the KTM 890 SMT’s demands. The state-of-the-art 5-inch TFT dashboard is made from optically bonded mineral glass and is scratch- and glare-resistant and fully customizable while divulging the easy-to-use infographic menu system for setup preferences.

Try six different handlebar positions with a 30-milimmeter range.

More add-ons include heated grips and the chance to add Motor Slip Regulation (MSR, ideal for better control in low-grip situations and for fast downshifts) to the software package. QUICKSHIFTER+ and cruise control are optional and ready to go with a simple activation process. Good connectivity with the bike means full access to navigation possibilities, and the advantages of the KTMconnect App include roadside assistance, owner manuals, digital service booklet for service and maintenance.

It would be very “backmarker-ish” not to mention the looks. The KTM 890 SMT says a lot with its Supermoto tourer style, from the wheels to the sporty graphics. The SMT cuts a sharp profile and will be impossible to miss and harder to outgun on the road. As ever, don’t forget the encompassing collection of KTM PowerParts (accessories and TRACK and TECH Packs) and KTM PowerWear to look the part on the hill, the highway or any hike to KTM 890 SMT happiness.

2023 KTM 890 SMT Highlights

 • KTM 890 LC8c reworked for special sport touring emphasis and the next generation of the KTM 890 SMT thanks to 100 newton-meters of torque and 105 horsepower with unbeatable power delivery
 • Performance with function: Get excited by the tech specs and then revel in the touring aspect of the bike with elements such as the 5-inch advanced TFT dashboard, Michelin PowerGP tires and optional QUICKSHIFTER+ and cruise control among other add-ons.
 • LED lights, eye-catching styling, 17-inch wheels and KTM 890 SMT spirit from the first throttle roll

Beat a path to any authorized KTM dealer from April 2023 to order or lay your gloves on the KTM 890 SMT.

The KTM 890 SMT will not be available in North America for model year 2023
